Benjamin Stouff – Honey B Guitar

Benjamin finished this just the other day. It was supposed to have active EMG pickups, and he had routed a neat little battery pocket in the back for them. After he started wiring, he remembered he had sold the EMGs on Ebay months ago!
Anyhow, here are the specs:
Sapele body and neck
East Indian ebony top
Ebony fingerboard
Vintage Burny humbucking pickups
1 volume, 1 tone, toggle switch.
According to Benjamin it weighs about the same as a Les Paul, but with the sapele body at 36 mm and the ebony top at 11 mm thick at the center, he wasn’t really going for a lightweight! The wood is not stained, but the guitar isn’t quite as red as in the pictures. It goes from dark brown to slightly orange depending on the grain. The top is actually 4 pieces of ebony and the grain made it hard to see that it was several pieces after sculpting.
The wood for the fingerboard was sold to Benjamin as Macassar ebony and the body top was labeled East Indian ebony (which is basically Macassar ebony anyway).
Benjamin adds:
“Maybe it is because of the longer scale length or body thickness or whatever, but the “Honey-B” doesn’t have that thick LP growl when playing the lower notes. The strings come through very evenly so the sound is well balanced and very crisp, but without being harsh, but I expected it to have a real fat Les Paul tone, which is not the case. Still I’m very happy with it and I might try different pickups, just in case…”
